The Long Goodbye (Robert Altman, 1973) with Elliot Gould and Sterling Hayden. I'm very mixed about Altman. Sometimes I really like his films (this one, MASH, Brewster McCloud, Three Women, The Player, Short Cuts) and sometimes I really dislike them (practically everything else he directed, especially the horrible 'Nashville' (1975)
